Courtney Love is dead. Or so the singer herself claims.
Courtney, who has always been a bit different from other girls, is now referring to herself in the third person and believes that she, Courtney Love, is loved on stage, but not loved anywhere else. As a resident in a city where over half of the population still blames her for husband Kurt Cobain’s suicide, I can say that there may be some truth to her claims.
Courtney Love prefers now to be called Courtney Michelle, which she seems to believe will help alleviate some of the stigma surrounding her name. I’m not so sure that will really help her reputation all that much after years in the spotlight, but if she really does change her name, I’m sure it won’t hurt all that much either.
In a recent interview with TIME magazine, Courtney Love also complained that she is tired of being “the official Kurt Cobain spokesperson”. I actually think that she has some valid points on this matter.
Courtney said, "I don't know what he'd be like now, he could be into society girls, he could be into fat girls, he could be homosexual. We don't know, he died at 27."
Although her statement sounds a little harsh, given the excitement surrounding Kurt Cobain’s and the constant fascination with the minute details of his life and death, he died 16 years ago and she should be able to move on with her own life.
On the other hand, Courtney Love has exposed the details of her life to the press, media, and now Hollywood- in fact, she is planning to make a film about Kurt Cobain’s life based on the biography “Heavier Than Heaven” by Chris Cross. She reportedly has two actors in mind to play Kurt Cobain’s role and is thinking of Scarlett Johansson to play her own part, which is very hard for me to imagine.
Currently, life is not so easy for Courtney Love. Her daughter recently made the decision to live with her paternal grandfather and Courtney lost custody. Courtney herself has had multiple trips to re-hab for her addictions.
Professionally, things are looking better, however, and Hole recently released a new album, “Nobody’s Daughter” which already seems to be doing well on the charts. For a really great interview, read the Guardian's report of meeting (and trying to understand) Courtney Love HERE.
