Who Cares If Jennifer Aniston's Pregnant?

Add Comment

Apparently a lot of people do!  But why?  The hysteria over the state of her hystera is perplexing to those of us who have little interest in the reproductive decisions of complete strangers.  The rumor mill has been churning overtime in Aniston's case, who has been reported to be pregnant by various random sources and tabloids for months now.

The first thing that's problematic about the constant Aniston pregnancy rumors is that most of them rely on visible confirmation.  In other words, the fabled "baby bump."  In an actress as greyhound thin as Jennifer Aniston, a large meal could end up looking like a baby bump, given the right sheer top and a fortuitous gust of wind.

Since when has it become acceptable to stare at someone's slightly-less-than-concave belly and proclaim her pregnant?  For pity's sake, people.  Get a grip!  And stop assuming that a half pound weight gain indicates pregnancy!

Tell an Old Joke Day

Add Comment

Tomorrow, July 24, is the day everyone gets to sigh with collective relief because they don’t have to come up with new jokes to entertain people with. Okay, maybe those of us who aren’t comedians don’t really lose sleep over such things, but there is a joy in recycling old jokes, isn’t there?

Anybody Heard Him Play?

IMHO Kevin Costner is an excellent actor, film maker, director, a performer of A-list quality talent. This afternoon, I read the following item from the Associated Press and I scratched my head --

"Court records show Kevin Costner has dismissed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against a music promoter (Mahee Worldwide Ventures Inc ) he claimed failed to back his music career... The 55-year-old actor-director sued in April 2007, claiming Mahee reneged on a deal to book the Kevin Costner Band for as many as five shows a year and maintain a marketing website. The case had been long-delayed because Mahee filed for bankruptcy."

Is Elvis Presley Still Alive?

Add Comment

The King of Rock and Roll would be 75 years old if he were still alive today.  That's what fascinates me about the "Elvis faked his own death" legend: what happened afterward?

I can believe that Elvis Presley faked his own death.  Although I think the possibility is unlikely.  Let's be honest, surely anyone who wanted to fake their own death would leave a better fake death behind than "died while pooping."

Something like, "died while rescuing a kitten from a tree" or even "died quietly in his sleep."  Something with a little dignity, you know?  Something better than the existing story, which is that he was found approximately 10 hours after his likely death, face down in a puddle of vomit on his bathroom floor, with his pants around his ankles.  That's just sad.

Mel & Oksana Circus: Extortion?

Add Comment

Detectives are investigating the ex-girlfriend.

The AP reports -- "Sheriff's detectives in Los Angeles are checking extortion allegations against Mel Gibson's ex-girlfriend."

So now the law is looking at her, the ex-girlfriend, Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva. His lawyers said she was shaking him, Mel Gibson, the big mega-star, down for money. They are still looking at him. She told detectives earlier this month that he physically abused her in January. Neither he nor her has been arrested or charged with a crime. They have an infant daughter and they are fighting in court for custody of the child, and about money. So much of everything is about money.

UFOs Over China!

Add Comment

Maybe… maybe not!  A ton of images and video purporting to show a rash of UFOs over China last week have gone through a flurry of internet activity.  Debunked!  Bunked!  Re-debunked!  It's missiles!  It's a counter-missile system!  It's an optical illusion!  It's UFOs and China doesn't want to admit it!

Here are the facts: something happened to shut down Xiaoshan Airport.  To quote CNN, "Eighteen flights were delayed or rerouted and operations shut down after twinkling lights were spotted above the terminal around 9 p.m. July 7."  Some people thought it was a private aircraft which had gone astray.  Others thought it was something military - an experimental aircraft, perhaps, or who knows what.

What CNN describes as "twinkling lights" has been described by other sources as "a glowing object hovering in the afternoon sky."

Lindsay Lohan Goes To Jail

Lindsay Lohan got a big send off befitting a Hollywood princess this morning, Tuesday, to begin her 90-day jail sentence for violating probation in a DUI case. She arrived at the Beverly Hills courthouse in a motorcade, was welcomed by cameras, photographers , reporters, and more cameras, and by fans, one of whom, according to People.com, "threw confetti toward her as she walked up the steps. One fan held a sign reading, 'Free Lindsay.' " The only thing missing was a big marching band. Anyone who thinks Ms. Lohan's career is over had better think again. Unless she continues to do things to harm herself, she could go to the next level, a bigger level. But, first the 24 year old actress has to do her time in lock down, and complete parole, which is scheduled to run until August, 2011.
